Concurrents – Environmental Psychology: Planning Future Workplaces

As we establish the new “normal” of our lives, we will be re-thinking how we use all the places in them. It seems likely that in the future many people will be teleworking from home more frequently, even once it is safe for people to return to working onsite at employer owned/managed offices. The teleworking research indicates that professional performance and camaraderie hit their highest levels when we work outside the office a couple of days a week, and even without knowledge of particular cognitive science studies, the value of a “split-week” will become apparent to people as they try to develop their own future work routines. The science shows that we do a much better job at many sorts of work when we are physically present in the same location.
