OI Publications Launches New officeinsight Website

Over the past six months, the officeinsight team has been hard at work developing a new website. Anyone who has been through a website redesign will understand how much work it is. At officeinsight, we had more than a decade of stories and photos that needed to be moved from the old website to the new (and to make sure all those stories moved over looked just as good as they did on the old site).

It was a monumental process and even though the new website is live, it is a process that will continue as we address some minor tweaks and details, so please be patient if the website doesn’t work perfectly.

When we started on this project, we embarked with two guiding principles: First, we wanted to improve the user experience. It is faster and easier to navigate. Second, the website had to maintain the character and branding of officeinsight. The new website remains clean and uncluttered and though it looks different, it feels comfortable and on brand with officeinsight.

We also wanted to elevate officenewswire. The officenewswire section of the website has always been the place where you can find new product information, job and career announcements and information about upcoming events — in short, ā€œbreakingā€ news. The section is well-read and excellent so we wanted to give it a place on the new website that is easier to find. officenewswire is now found as the first listing on the officeinsight homepage, just under the featured stories. We are also bulking up officenewswire. We want the officenewswire section of the website to be a daily starting point for you — a place to check each morning for breaking news and events in the industry.

The most apparent change to the officeinsight website is the features carousel at the top of the home page. These are the main features, the stories we believe matter most, which is why they are so prominent on the page. We had a section for featured stories on the old website, but those features rarely changed and were reserved for only the very biggest stories (think NeoCon and Pritzker Architecture Prize.

We also changed, expanded and reorganized the categories on the website, making content you are looking for much easier to find. You can search by product categories like flooring and wallcoverings. You can also search by market segment and easily navigate through office, education and healthcare, to name a few.

The team designing the website also opened up more content. That means fewer stories are behind paywalls, making them easier to share on social media and with friends and colleagues who may not be subscribers. At the same time, we added benefits to our subscribers. The weekly issue of officeinsight remains subscriber only and the vast archive of stories on the officeinsight website is limited to
subscriber-only access.

We hope that you enjoy the changes and are patient with us as we implement the new website fully. It is the first major revamp of officeinsight in almost a decade and we hope it will feel both familiar and refreshed at the same time.

Finally, I want to thank our officeinsight team for all the hard work on this project. The website was designed by Brian Chiou of Axiom and Jill Thomas from the officeinsight team, who spent countless hours on the new website. Tech support was provided by Jeremy Norris. And Susan Avery, who handles officenewswire and much of the hard work that goes into posting stories and photos on the site, worked diligently (and doubled her workload) by posting on both the old and new sites as we worked on them side-by-side.

She also provided critical design critiques while always keeping the reader in mind. Though this is the official launch of the website, undoubtedly, there will be some tweaks that will need to be made. The new website will also allow us to add additional features and functionality, which will be added on an ongoing basis. I ask for your patience as we work through any launch issues. But with that said, welcome to the new officeinsight website. We are so happy you are here.
