MillerKnoll to Wind Down Norton Shores Plant, Shift Production to Spring Lake

MillerKnoll is making a strategic shuffle on the Michigan lakeshore.

The Zeeland-based furniture maker this week announced plans to close its Norton Shores manufacturing facility, a 367,000-square-foot space once run by Knoll, and consolidate production into two nearby plants in Spring Lake Township. The transition will begin this summer and stretch over the next two years.

Roughly 250 employees are affected by the move, though most will have the opportunity to transition to MillerKnoll’s Spring Lake operations, which together span more than 615,000 square feet. The company said it will provide resources and support to employees throughout the shift.

ā€œThe phased relocation will begin this summer and will take place over the next two years. As a longstanding employer in West Michigan, MillerKnoll is committed to supporting its employees in the lakeshore community throughout this transition,ā€ a company spokesperson wrote in a statement.

The Norton Shores site became part of MillerKnoll following Herman Miller’s 2021 merger with Knoll. The site has long served as a production hub for the Knoll side of the business, but the company’s post-merger evolution is now changing its West Michigan footprint.

The consolidation comes just two weeks after MillerKnoll reported strong financials. The company posted $961.8 million in net sales for its fiscal fourth quarter 2025, an 8.2% year-over-year increase. Guidance for the current quarter shows continued growth, with projected sales between $899 million and $939 million, up from $861.5 million in the same period last year.

The move reflects MillerKnoll’s ongoing efforts to optimize its operations and reduce redundancy in a post-merger world.
