Out of the Kiln // Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum

Museums are places that hold a distinct spot in many hearts – for their learning opportunities, for their ability to show beauty and intrigue, and for their cultural placemaking presence in our communities. Museums around the world also serve as design and architectural gems in their own right, in addition to acting as a vessel for the demonstration of other things. We count the new Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum, just completed in 2020, as part of this cohort. Designed by Studio Zhi-Pei, the kiln museum is so immersed in the local culture and work of its surroundings, that its commanding visual presence feels perfectly nestled into place.
