Bringing the Arts into STEM: A New School by Svigals+Partners

As September rolls in, we’re back in a school state of mind. With the start of the 2017 school year comes a more concentrated focus on schools that will help fill the gaps in our workforce. STEM schools – ones that specialize in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – are now shifting to a more inclusive view of how to fill those gaps, by incorporating the arts. STEAM education integrates the arts into the framework of a project-based STEM learning environment, providing young learners with a more holistic educational experience. Nestled inside the University of New Haven campus in West Haven, Conn., a new STEAM school designed by Svigals+Partners will welcome students in grades 6-12 into an environment that intertwines both scientific and artistic mindsets.
